Experimental Pyelonephritis

Abstract
To investigate the pathogenesis of pyelonephritis, experimental pyelonephritis were produced by administration of E, coli (5x108/ml) into urinary bladder and vein in rats, respectively. Thereafter the pathological features of t1e ascending type were compared with that of the blood-borne type.
The following results were obtained ;
1. There were no significant gross ar.d histopatho logical changes in the group not obstructed urirary flow after infusion of E. coli into urinary bladder and vein.
2. In the group obstructed urir:ary flow for two hours after infusion of E, coli, experimental acute pyelonephritis were produced. Tl.e pathological sequences were almost identical and the only significant difference was in the distribution of lesiors. In the blood-borne type it is widespread, involving all parts of the parer_chyma, whereas in the ascending form it is largely confined to the perihilar region,
